why

“mithtra”

when i began birthwork, i was fascinated to learn the root words of midwife; mid [to be with] & wif [woman].

as my identity expanded beyond being a midwife attending birthing people (of all genders) and into being a practicing therapist, i felt called to create a new word describing my work: mithtra.

mid and mith as root words both hold similar meaning: mith [to be with // together with]

tra as a root word is a variant of trans [across // beyond // through]. this felt particularly special as a trans-identifying person to also find a reclamation of the binary language held by midwife.

i see therapy as a practice of being a guide and compassionate presence to support others in crossing through the sacred thresholds of their life. i am here to support you on your unique passage.

/ together with

[tra]

: mithtra :
